Reimagining the Built Environment Through a Systems Approach

Green+ advances the built and social environment of marginalized communities through sustainability practices that increase economic development, and enhance resilience, social stability and well-being, while also protecting the environment.

Sustainability | Every Community | Every Generation

  • At Green+, we believe sustainability is more than just "going green." It is the framework for everything we build and represents the integration of environmental health, social equity, and economic vitality. These three interconnected pillars are vital to a community’s health. If one fails, the others eventually crumble. As such, Green+ focuses on the intersection of all three to create what we call the Sustainability Plus effect - the optimal systemic conditions for reducing social vulnerability, waste and polluting environmental elements for generations to come.

We facilitate this generational change by equipping our partners through education, training, and advocacy, while driving physical progress through community planning and green build asset development.

  • Green+ is committed to community wellbeing.

We’re building more than structures; we’re building resilience and transforming the built environment in North Texas. Green+ is committed to partnering with community-based housing and economic development leaders to make sustainable development a permanent pathway out of poverty by bringing clean energy, high-performance buildings, and climate resilience to marginalized communities.

To fulfill our commitment, Green+ facilitates this transformation through education, training, advocacy, community planning, and green build asset development.

  • "Sustainability is the integration of environmental health, social equity and economic vitality in order to create thriving, healthy, diverse and resilient communities for this generation and generations to come. The practice of sustainability recognizes how these issues are interconnected and requires a systems approach and an acknowledgement of complexity."

    UCLA Charter, Sustainability Committee

Green+ believes that sustainability must be understood and practiced in every community - now and for generations to come. This systems-based approach recognizes that housing, climate, public health, and economic opportunity are interconnected.

We encourage the renovation and construction of new housing and commercial buildings that are highly energy-efficient, built with healthy and sustainable materials, and designed for resilience. These high performance structures: (i) reduce energy costs, (ii) effectively increase household incomes, (iii) reduce greenhouse gases (GHG’s), and (iv) reduce risk to human life, public health, and property while fostering a greater understanding of sustainable development’s environmental, economic, and social benefits.

  • Green+ was born from action. What began in 2024 as a highly collaborative pro-bono initiative by co-founders Karen Brooks-Crosby and Regina Nippert has evolved into a dedicated force for change. Formally established as a Texas nonprofit in early 2026, our roots remain firmly planted in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

We launched Green+ to address a critical gap: while our region experiences rapid growth, marginalized communities are too often left behind, facing disproportionate climate risks and rising energy costs. We stepped in to bridge this divide by partnering with community-based affordable housing and economic development leaders to modernize their business models by incorporating sustainability.

By embracing "high-performance green building," we align local development with the goals of the Dallas Comprehensive Environmental and Climate Action Plan (CECAP). We advocate for the renovation and construction of energy-efficient, resilient structures built with sustainable materials. These are more than just buildings - they are tools for transformation

Powering Community. Building Resilience. Advancing Equity.

Why Green+ ?

As one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country, DFW faces persistently high child poverty, rising housing costs, environmental injustice, and increasing climate risks. Community development organizations are working tirelessly to meet housing and economic needs, yet sustainability and climate resilience have not been systematically integrated into these efforts.

Green+ exists to bridge that gap.

We help community-based organizations adapt their business models and projects to incorporate sustainable development principles that reduce energy costs, improve public health, and strengthen long-term economic opportunity.

Environmental Health

Protecting the world we share.

We advocate for green build assets and high-performance buildings that use non-toxic, healthy materials and renewable energy. Providing healthy communal places and spaces that offer security, dignity, and stability to everyone is foundational to an equitable society. While DFW is growing rapidly, this growth does not guarantee equity

Social Equity

Advancing justice for vulnerable populations.

A "green" home is only a success if it is accessible to those who need it most. Our philosophy dictates that marginalized communities must be the first to benefit from the clean energy transition, not the last. We focus on "Trauma-Informed Housing" that provides security, dignity, and stability for families who have historically been left out of regional prosperity.

Economic Vitality

Building wealth, not just shelter.

Sustainability is an economic engine. High-performance homes reduce energy burdens by slashing utility bills, allowing families to redirect those funds toward education, healthcare, and savings. By decreasing rent and energy burdens on families and small businesses, we can create economic value by effectively increasing business and household income.
